FLY-BYE Floor Drain Trap Seal
Description
FLY-BYE™ Floor Drain Trap Seal for virtually maintenance free drains.
The Bar Maid FLY-BYE Floor Drain Trap Seal is a patented one-way valve that prevents aerosolized pathogens, sewer gases, insects and odors from coming up through the floor drain, while allowing water and solids to drain down.
With a durable one way silicone valve, the economical FLY-BYE Floor Drain Trap Seal:
• Installs quickly and easily in minutes
• For residential and commercial use
• Currently used in thousands of independent and chain restaurants, hotels, hospitals and stadiums
• Makes drains virtually maintenance free
• Stops fruit flies and cockroaches from escaping
• Keeps bacteria and viruses, nasty smells and gases in the drain
• Stops the need for adding primers and fresh water
• Does not impede flow rate
• Pesticide-free
• Patented 3-part design allows fluid to flow down, but nothing to come back up
Fruit flies, cockroaches and other insects are not just a nuisance… they are a major sanitation issue for bars and restaurants. This floor drain trap seal joins our FLY-BYE line of products that give the restaurant and bar industry effective tools to combat these pests.
Fruit flies and many other insects feed and breed in floor drains, thriving in that damp environment where organic residues build up and act as an attractant. Bacteria and viruses also flourish in the slimy biofilm of damp drains. Insects that crawl out of the drain into the living or workspace may be couriers of those pathogens. The FLY-BYE Floor Drain Trap Seal prevents insect infiltration and the potentially fatal cross contamination and infection spread possible from unprotected drains.
The reversing airflow of unprotected floor drains can also pose a health hazard, allowing the aerosolization of pathogens and migration of not only foul odors, but also harmful and potentially flammable gases out of the drain. The FLY-BYE Floor Drain Trap Seal acts as a vapor barrier to help prevent aerosolized pathogens and gases such as methane, hydrogen sulfide and radon from infiltrating the living or workspace, improving indoor air quality.
SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19, may be transmitted through plumbing systems
The drains of a plumbing system are interconnected, meaning toilets, sinks, bathtubs, showers and floor drains are connected, and even connected between different rooms and units within a building. A trap usually prevents aerosolized pathogens, sewer gases, insects and odors from exiting the drain. A dry trap, vent blockage or other plumbing system malfunction may result in failure of the trap to work properly and allow those to migrate out of the drain and into the living space.
The World Health Organization found that floor drains were a conduit for aerosolized virus to travel between apartment units and contributed to a super-spreading event of SARS-CoV infection in residents.1
SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19, has been detected in the feces of some patients diagnosed with COVID-19. After a February 2020 investigation into a similar spreading event of this coronavirus between residents living in a Hong Kong high-rise tower called Hong Mei House, health officials suspect malfunction of the interconnected plumbing system allowed the coronavirus to spread between apartment units.
According to a study in the journal Lancet Global Health, the interconnectedness of the wastewater plumbing network can facilitate exposure to SARS-CoV-2 within, or even between, buildings.2 This is of particular concern in high-risk transmission settings such as hospitals and healthcare buildings, as well as mixed use buildings, multi-unit residential and lodging, and high-traffic commercial businesses such as restaurants.
FLY-BYE Floor Drain Trap Seal named a winner in the Foodservice Equipment Reports 2017 Smallwares Competition.
Tested and certified to the ASSE 1072 Standard and listed with IAPMO and I.C.C. Helps in LEED Certification. For use in either new construction or retrofit applications where trap primers were never installed.
HACCP Certified by HACCP International. The HACCP International certification mark confirms a non-food product’s ability to support the integrity and safety of food as demanded by industry expectations, legislation and GSFI (Global Food Safety Initiative) endorsed standards.
